Exciting news from Coston Primary ECO Heroes.
Towards the end of 2024, the ECO Committee, led by Mr Flynn and Mrs Cooper, were absolutely delighted to be awarded a Bupa Foundation Green Community Grant for our school. The generous £2000 Bupa Foundation Green Grant has enabled us to develop a once un-used section of our school site into an attractive outdoor classroom and woodland area. This space now has an area with natural benches under a canopy which can be used an outdoor teaching space. It also has a wicker den and log seating area which can be used for smaller groups to relax and read in. The ECO Heroes have been busy working on these new areas and planting shrubs and small trees which will make the area more and more attractive as they grow and provide a habitat for wildlife. We look forward to being able to use the space especially in the warmer months and will enjoy looking after the area and developing it further over the coming years. One of the most exciting features of this newly developed area is a living willow archway which serves as an entrance to the outdoor classroom. This living willow has already started to bloom and will become more established over the years to come, becoming a main feature. We hope that you all will get a chance soon to see this area and have included some photos below so you can see what amazing work the ECO Committee team have been doing.
Woodland Trust Green Schools Award
March 2024
The ECO Heroes have just received the Woodland Trust Green Schools Silver award. We have been working hard to improve our school grounds and raise awareness about trees and why they are so important not only to wildlife but for us as well. All classes in the school will be able to take part in some fun activities over the next term as we work towards receiving the Gold award.
Exciting News-Woodland Trust Green Tree School Gold Award
The ECO Heroes were delighted to receive the Woodland Trust Green Tree School Gold award in the summer term of 2024. Lots of work went into achieving the Gold award, including all the work the ECO Heroes and volunteers have been doing to improve our school grounds by planting, developing our outdoor woodland area and maintaining our ECO corner. Many of our pupils have had a chance to engage in outdoor activities with their classes, such as planting seeds, planting an apple tree, going on an autumn walk and many others. All these activities have contributed to our achieving this award.
Official raising of Eco Schools flag
On Wednesday 12th July our local MP James Murray kindly visited us to officially raise the Eco Schools flag at the front of school.
The Eco Heroes have worked very hard to gain this award for our school and were very pleased to meet with James Murray and speak with him about the work that they have done.
They have also gained the Woodland Trust Bronze Award this term and are already well on the way to gaining their Silver Award. Watch this space for next term’s updates on their progress.'
